Wolfgang was laying on the floor, surrounded by utensils he needed to compose: note sheets, pens of all sorts, some coloring pencils to add highlights or mark arrangements he wants to overwork and so on, a college block where he had written down his ideas for songs and lyrics. Somewhere close by stood a cup of coffee and a plate with macarons.
Since he had lived in France for a couple of years these sweets have been his weakness. Besides from his somewhat French accent this was the only thing that showed that he had stayed in France for quite a while.

No matter how much he had enjoyed living in the famous city Paris, he was glad that he got the chance to live and work in Vienna again. Wolfgang had missed his beloved Vienna and couldn't wait to return to it. With a degree in Composing and Songwriting he also got a degree in stage entertainment.
Even through once back home all his enthusiasm got blown away. His father gave him the same lectures Wolfgang though his father wouldn't dare to utter after all these years. Wolfgang had the feeling that all the hard labour from the last years hadn't been enough to prove that he was sure what he wanted to archive and how the wanted to spend his life.

If only his beloved mother would be still alive, she would have tried to calm his father, protect her somewhat sensible son who just wanted to live his dream. "Yes you have studied hard and your grades are superb. But what now Wolfgang? Don't say you want to waste your talent in some obscure rock band. Son, you could be the most celebrated member of a symphonic orchestra or a famous piano player. But you want to throw away your talent making this kind of "music". You can hardly call it music anyway".

Wolfgang felt his anger boiling inside of him. He was about to open his mouth but only shook his head. There was no use to discuss this topic with his father. Sure he was a talented piano player and had no problem with declaring that he was fond of classical music. But he didn't saw himself in a tuxedo, sitting behind a piano and entertaining an audience that had spent a bunch of money of tickets just to see him play pieces of Beethoven, Chopin or Bach. It was enough for him that he was doing that on three days in the week to have a somewhat good paid work and it was just the right amount of days in his opinion that he enjoyed what he was doing without being too much.

Now that he was in his room with a locked door, listen to some classical rock he was trying to get a couple of pieces done he was had been working on during the week. He wanted to finish them before he was starting his job hunt. He had already spotted a few places where young musicians were hanging out. Wolfgang was as optimistic as always that he would find a band or some people who would start a band with him.

1762 - 1773 (Age 6 to Age 16): Childhood And Early Successes
While Wolfgang was young, his family made several European journeys in which he and Nannerl performed as child prodigies. These began with an exhibition in 1762 at the court of Prince-elector Maximilian III of Bavaria in Munich, and at the Imperial Courts in Vienna and Prague. A long concert tour followed, spanning three and a half years, taking the family to the courts of Munich, Mannheim, Paris, London, The Hague, Paris, and back home via Zurich, Donaueschingen, and Munich.
During this trip, Wolfgang met a number of musicians and acquainted himself with the works of other composers. A particularly important influence was Johann Christian Bach, the son of Johann Sebastian Bach.

After one year in Salzburg, Leopold and Wolfgang set off for Italy, leaving Anna Maria and Nannerl at home. This tour lasted from December 1769 to March 1771. As with earlier journeys, Leopold wanted to display his son's abilities as a performer and a rapidly maturing composer. Wolfgang met Josef Mysliveček and Giovanni Battista Martini in Bologna, and was accepted as a member of the famous Accademia Filarmonica. In Rome, he heard Gregorio Allegri's Miserere twice in performance, in the Sistine Chapel, and wrote it out from memory, thus producing the first unauthorized copy of this closely guarded property of the Vatican.
In Milan, Mozart wrote the opera "Mitridate, re di Ponto" (1770), which was performed with success. This led to further opera commissions. He returned with his father twice to Milan (August – December 1771, October 1772 – March 1773).

1773 - 1777 (Age 17 to Age 21): Trapped In Salzburg
After finally returning with his father from Italy on 13 March 1773, Mozart was employed as a court musician by the ruler of Salzburg, Prince-Archbishop Hieronymus Colloredo. The composer had a great number of friends and admirers in Salzburg and had the opportunity to work in many genres, including symphonies, sonatas, string quartets, masses, serenades, and a few minor operas. Between April and December 1775, Mozart developed an enthusiasm for violin concertos, producing a series of five, which steadily increased in their musical sophistication. In 1776, he turned his efforts to piano concertos.

Despite these artistic successes, Mozart grew increasingly discontented with Salzburg and redoubled his efforts to find a position elsewhere. One reason was the low salery but he also longed to compose operas, and Salzburg provided only rare occasions for these. The situation worsened in 1775 when the court theater was closed, especially since the other theater in Salzburg was largely reserved for visiting troupes.

1777 - 1778 (Age 21 to Age 22): The Fateful Paris Journey
In August 1777, Mozart resigned his position at Salzburg and on 23 September ventured out once more in search of employment, with visits to Augsburg, Mannheim, Paris, and Munich.
Mozart became acquainted with members of the famous orchestra in Mannheim, the best in Europe at the time. There were prospects of employment in Mannheim, but they came to nothing, and Mozart left for Paris on 14 March 1778 to continue his search. One of his letters from Paris hints at a possible post as an organist at Versailles, but Mozart was not interested in such an appointment. He fell into debt and took to pawning valuables. The nadir of the visit occurred when Mozart's mother was taken ill and died on 3 July 1778.
While Mozart was in Paris, his father was pursuing opportunities of employment for him in Salzburg. With the support of the local nobility, Mozart was offered a post as court organist and concertmaster. The annual salary was 450 florins, but he was reluctant to accept. After leaving Paris in September 1778 for Strasbourg, he lingered in Mannheim and Munich, still hoping to obtain an appointment outside Salzburg.

1779 - 1781 (Age 23 to Age 25): Again In Salzburg
Mozart finally returned to Salzburg on 15 January 1779 and took up his new appointment, but his discontentment with Salzburg remained undiminished.
In January 1781, Mozart's opera "Idomeneo" premiered with "considerable success" in Munich. The following March, Mozart was summoned to Vienna, where his employer, Archbishop Colloredo, was attending the celebrations for the accession of Joseph II to the Austrian throne.
Colloredo's wish to prevent Mozart from performing outside his own establishment was in other cases, however, carried through, raising the composer's anger; one example was a chance to perform before the Emperor at Countess Thun's for a fee equal to half of his yearly Salzburg salary.
The quarrel with the archbishop came to a head in May: Mozart attempted to resign and was refused. The following month, permission was granted, but in a grossly insulting way: the composer was dismissed literally "with a kick in the arse", administered by the archbishop's steward, Count Arco. Mozart decided to settle in Vienna as a freelance performer and composer.
The quarrel with the archbishop went harder for Mozart because his father sided against him. Hoping fervently that he would obediently follow Colloredo back to Salzburg, Mozart's father exchanged intense letters with his son, urging him to be reconciled with their employer. Mozart passionately defended his intention to pursue an independent career in Vienna. The debate ended when Mozart was dismissed by the archbishop, freeing himself both of his employer and his father's demands to return. Solomon characterizes Mozart's resignation as a "revolutionary step", and it greatly altered the course of his life.

Mozart's new career in Vienna began well. He performed often as a pianist, notably in a competition before the Emperor with Muzio Clementi on 24 December 1781, and he soon "had established himself as the finest keyboard player in Vienna".He also prospered as a composer, and in 1782 completed the opera "Die Entführung aus dem Serail" ("The Abduction from the Seraglio"), which premiered on 16 July 1782 and achieved a huge success. The work was soon being performed "throughout German-speaking Europe", and fully established Mozart's reputation as a composer.

1782 - 1786 (Age 26 to Age 30): Vienna Years
In the course of 1782 and 1783, Mozart became intimately acquainted with the work of Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel as a result of the influence of Gottfried van Swieten, who owned many manuscripts of the Baroque masters. Mozart's study of these scores inspired compositions in Baroque style and later influenced his personal musical language, for example in fugal passages in "Die Zauberflöte" ("The Magic Flute") and the finale of Symphony No. 41.
Mozart met Joseph Haydn in Vienna around 1784, and the two composers became friends. When Haydn visited Vienna, they sometimes played together in an impromptu string quartet.
From 1782 to 1785 Mozart mounted concerts with himself as soloist, presenting three or four new piano concertos in each season. Since space in the theaters was scarce, he booked unconventional venues: a large room in the Trattnerhof (an apartment building), and the ballroom of the Mehlgrube (a restaurant).The concerts were very popular, and the concertos he premiered at them are still firm fixtures in the repertoire. Solomon writes that during this period Mozart created "a harmonious connection between an eager composer-performer and a delighted audience, which was given the opportunity of witnessing the transformation and perfection of a major musical genre".
Despite the great success of "Die Entführung aus dem Serail", Mozart did little operatic writing for the next four years, producing only two unfinished works and the one-act "Der Schauspieldirektor". He focused instead on his career as a piano soloist and writer of concertos. Around the end of 1785, Mozart moved away from keyboard writing and began his famous operatic collaboration with the librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte. 1786 saw the successful premiere of "The Marriage of Figaro" in Vienna.

Wolfgang was sitting in the living room and was working on his part for "The Philosopher's Stone, or the Enchanted Isle". So far it had been a lot of fun to work on this singspiel in their group of five. That was a new way of working on something for Mozart. Still he was sceptical if it could work with everyone or if most of the good work was due to fact that they got along pretty well and an exchange of ideas was possible.

However the duet in front of him was a plague to work on. No matter how often he looked at it, tried to hum a tune of it, even changed the words now and then it was as if he was looking at a helpless case. If that would have been a work from him only he would have tossed that duet on the pile of unfinished drafts and tried to work on something else. /Maybe I should go out and catch some fresh air/ he thought and got up from the chair.

He grabbed his coat from the coat track and closed the door behind him. It was a summary autumn day. Mozart strolled through his beloved Vienna, observed the people who passed him by, tried to get inspired from the architecture. Mozart was sure that sooner or later he would find the inspiration he was searching for.

For a while he was making his way through town without having any plan where to go or what to do. Out of the corner of his eye he saw one of his favourite café and decided that maybe a cup of coffee and a piece of cake wouldn't be such a bad idea.
While he sat outside in the sun, sipping his coffee his gaze was wandering around. The composit was marveling over they saying that you should surround yourself with people who inspire you. At the moment it wasn't possible for all of them to sit together and exchange ideas. Wolfgang thought of some of his close friends, but crossed them from the list of inspiring people. At least music wise they weren't helpful.

Wasn't your soul mate supposed to be that person from who you could get all the inspiration you need? But who was his soul mate? Wolfgang thought back of the days when he was sure that he had already found his soul mate. Oh, what a disappointment when it was clear that she wasn't his soul mate. Oddly enough one of his closest friends was still thinking that they are soul mates and that Wolfgang should just think about it and then he would realize that it was the truth.

Wolfgang nearly dropped his empty coffee cup when he saw a woman who walked on the other street side. He saw her soul mate tattoo and couldn't believe his eyes. An extraordinary feeling was within him. Without a warning he got an idea and let out a laugh. It was a remarkable idea and no one wouldn't attribute this to another composer.
He looked after her, considering if he should follow her or not. When she was walking around the corner he got up from his chair and ran across the street.

/What a twist of fate/ he thought amused /I always thought that soul mate tattoos should match in a harmonic way and not as contrasting pair/
Now he was just a few steps away from her. "Excuse me, Miss" he began and hoped that he didn't have to come up with a little lie to get her attention. His inner self remarked that it would be helpful to show off his soul mate tattoo. But he couldn't take of his coat, jacket and shirt, just to expose the starling on his left upper arm.
